Being famous for his Greek god statues and his depictions of other mythological beings of the antiquity, the pair of two gatekeepers is characteristic for the artistic work of Bertel Thorvaldsen. The sheer size of the statues, which present themselves as guardians of the home, invokes an overall impression of opulence. Armed with sword and spear, the pair of antique statues is dressed in authentic classical Roman war armament, which almost gives them a sense of being alive.
The Roman Gatekeepers are only available in an exclusive, limited edition of 20 items, which are numbered individually and furnished with the adopted signature of the original piece.
The production of our bronze statues is subject to strict quality guidelines. Our whole selection of bronze statues has been produced by using the lost wax technique and has been cast by hand.
Bertel Thorvaldsen (born 19 November 1770 in Copenhagen and died 24 March 1844 in the same city) was a famous Danish sculptor whose work almost exclusively depicted mythological creatures in order to try and recreate the idyll of the antiquity. At only eleven years old, he was already a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Art and the winner of numerous awards. In the course of his artistic career, however, he did not only create Greek mythology statues, but was also commissioned with precise assignments by Napoleon Bonaparte.
